About the Repository

Selection

Departments will select exemplary works from programmes using criteria agreed with the Library. Most departments deposit post-graduate work, some may have chosen to deposit undergraduate work as well. Normally 5-10 works per year, per course will be selected.

Criteria may be:
a) works which achieve a distinction or over a specified mark and/or
b) works which are good examples of a particular type of dissertation e.g. a case study or a bibliography.

Process

  • Students will either be asked to provide an electronic copy when they submit their final work or if electronic submission via the VLE is used, that electronic copy can be used.
  • Students sign a paper consent form giving the library permission to hold an electronic copy. This states that the author retains the copyright, and no copying or printing is permitted.
  • Course tutor/marker selects whether work is to be held for standard 3 years or 10 years.
  • Permission form and electronic copy of selected items are sent to the Subject Librarian in the Library, as Word, RTF or PDF documents. Supplementary audio/visual material may be included.
  • Library staff convert to pdf if necessary and put the dissertations into the student work repository (an EPrints repository at http://eprints-godo.gold.ac.uk).
  • There will be a description of each course collection on the library catalogue with a link to the repository. Links may also be made from departmental VLE if required as the URLs for Browse or Search results are stable.
  • Dissertations may be accessed by Goldsmiths students and staff with Goldsmiths login or on Goldsmiths premises only. The username and password will be provided by staff at the Library Enquiry desk.
  • Plagiarism software may be used on electronic texts.
